Landing Gear Control Panel

Overview

The Landing Gear Control Panel manages the extension and retraction of the landing gear, the electronically controlled nose wheel steering (NWS) system, the autobrake system, and the anti-skid braking protection system. Each switch on the panel provides clear operational logic and feedback, ensuring safe ground taxiing, takeoff, and landing operations.

Panel Function Details

Landing Gear Lever

  • RETRACT: Selects gear up.
  • EXTEND: Selects gear down.

Note

  • The lever must be pulled out before changing position.
  • Maximum gear retraction speed: 220 kt; extension speed: 250 kt; maximum gear operating speed in flight: 280 kt.
  • When on the ground, the landing gear will not retract even if the lever is in the RETRACT position.

Alternate Extension Switch (AES)

  • Guard Closed: Alternate release function is disabled; gear is controlled by the main gear lever.
  • Switch Activated: Forces gear extension through alternate release.

Note

Activating alternate extension disconnects Hydraulic System 2 and disables nose wheel steering.

Nose Wheel Steering (NWS) Switch

  • ON: Activates electronic nose wheel steering system.
  • OFF: Deactivates nose wheel steering control.

Autobrake Selector Switch

  • RTO: Maximum braking during a rejected takeoff.
    • If wheel speed > 70 kt, maximum deceleration is applied automatically until full stop or cancellation;
    • If wheel speed ≤ 70 kt, deceleration is 7 ft/s².
  • LO: Deceleration of 5 ft/s².
  • MED: Deceleration of 7 ft/s².
  • HI: Deceleration of 9 ft/s².
  • OFF: Turns off the autobrake system.

Note

  • RTO mode is only available on the ground.

Anti-Skid (A/SKID) Switch

  • ON: Enables anti-skid protection.
  • OFF: Disables anti-skid protection.

Note

To move the switch from ON to OFF, it must be pulled out first before toggling.
