EMER DEPRESS and DITCHING Control Panel

Overview

The EMER DEPRESS and DITCHING Control Panel contains emergency controls related to cabin pressure and water landing preparation. These guarded switches are used only under specific operational or emergency circumstances and must be handled with care by the flight crew.

Panel Components

EMER DEPRESS Switch

  • This guarded switch initiates emergency cabin depressurization when pressed.

    • When released:

      • The aircraft operates under normal cabin pressure control.
    • When pushed:

      • Emergency depressurization is activated.
      • A white EMER DEPRESS ON message is displayed on the EICAS.

Warning

Use this function only in emergencies requiring immediate depressurization of the cabin.

DITCHING Switch

  • This guarded switch is used to prepare the aircraft for a ditching scenario (emergency water landing).

    • When released:

      • The ditching function is not active.
    • When pushed:

      • The aircraft begins its ditching preparation sequence, which may include closing various outflow valves and ports to maintain watertight integrity.

Note

This function is typically used in scenarios where a forced water landing is imminent.

WASHER Switch

  • This is a momentary push-button switch located next to the EMER DEPRESS and DITCHING switches.

    • When pushed:
      • Two nozzles simultaneously spray cleaning fluid to wash the windshield.

Info

This function is useful for clearing the pilot's forward view in case of contamination.
