EXT LIGHTING Control Panel


Overview

The EXT LIGHTING Control Panel manages all major exterior lighting systems on the aircraft, providing toggles for navigation, recognition, taxi, takeoff, and landing lights. These switches allow the flight crew to ensure proper aircraft visibility during various phases of ground and flight operations.


Panel Components

STROBE Switch

  • Controls the high-intensity strobe lights located on the aircraft.

    • When set to OFF:
      • Strobe lights are turned off.
    • When set to ON:
      • Strobe lights begin flashing to enhance aircraft visibility to others.

BEACON Switch

  • Controls the red rotating beacon lights mounted on top and bottom of the fuselage.

    • When set to OFF:
      • Beacon lights are off.
    • When set to ON:
      • Beacon lights flash, indicating engine start or aircraft movement.

  • Controls the aircraft’s navigation lights on wingtips and tail.

    • When set to OFF:
      • Navigation lights are extinguished.
    • When set to ON:
      • Navigation lights illuminate, helping to define aircraft position and orientation.

LOGO Switch

  • Controls the lights illuminating the airline logo on the tail.

    • When set to OFF:
      • Logo lights are off.
    • When set to ON:
      • Logo lights illuminate the vertical stabilizer.

WING Switch

  • Controls lighting mounted near the wing roots for surface visibility.

    • When set to OFF:
      • Wing lights are extinguished.
    • When set to ON:
      • Wing lights illuminate for ice detection or inspection.

LANDING LEFT / RIGHT / NOSE Switches

  • Control three independent landing light groups:

    • LEFT:

      • OFF: Left wing root landing light is off.
      • ON: Left wing root landing light illuminates.
    • NOSE:

      • OFF: Nose landing lights are off.
      • ON: Nose landing lights illuminate.

      Note: Lights automatically extinguish when the nose gear is retracted.

    • RIGHT:

      • OFF: Right wing root landing light is off.
      • ON: Right wing root landing light illuminates.

TAXI Switch

  • Activates forward taxi lights mounted near the nose landing gear.

    • When set to OFF:
      • Taxi lights are off.
    • When set to ON:
      • Taxi lights illuminate the forward path on the ground.

    Note: Lights automatically turn off with nose gear retraction.


RWY TURNOFF Switch

  • Controls the lateral runway turnoff lights.

    • When set to OFF:
      • Runway turnoff lights are extinguished.
    • When set to ON:
      • Runway turnoff lights illuminate the sides of taxiway/runway for cornering visibility.
