FIRE Control Panel
Overview
The FIRE Control Panel is used to detect and suppress fires in the engines and APU. It allows the flight crew to isolate affected systems and deploy fire extinguishing agents. The panel also includes a system test feature to verify proper operation of all fire protection systems.
Panel Components
L/R ENG FIRE Switch
- Normally pushed in when no fire is detected.
-
When an engine fire is detected or the FIRE SYS TEST is activated, the switch pops out and can be pulled by the crew.
Releasing the switch will:
- Close the fuel Low Pressure Shutoff Valve (LPSOV)
- Close the fuel High Pressure Shutoff Valve (HPSOV)
- Close the hydraulic Shutoff Valve (SOV)
- Close the cross bleed valve
- Close the bleed air Pressure Regulating and Shut Off Valve (PRSOV)
- Close the two nacelle anti-ice valves
- Disconnect the engine generator
- Arm the corresponding engine fire extinguishing system
APU FIRE Switch
- Pushed in by default when no fire is detected.
-
Pops out when APU fire is detected or tested.
Releasing the switch will:
- Close the APU fuel valve
- Perform an emergency shutdown of the APU
- Close the APU bleed valve
- Disconnect the APU generator
- Close the APU inlet door
- Arm the APU fire extinguishing system
- Illuminate the amber FAULT light on the APU MASTER switch
- Extinguish the green AVAIL light on the APU START switch
L(R) ENG AGENT 1(2) Switch
-
A momentary switch used to discharge the fire extinguishing agent into the corresponding engine.
-
If no lights are illuminated:
- System is normal and disarmed
-
If both SQUIB and DISCH lights are illuminated:
- ENG FIRE switch has been pulled
- Fire extinguisher pressure is normal
- Squib is functioning correctly
- Pressing the switch will discharge the agent into the engine
- SQUIB light will extinguish
-
If only DISCH is illuminated:
- The extinguishing agent has been discharged
- Pressure is now low
-
Note
If neither light illuminates after pulling the ENG FIRE switch, the system may be inoperative due to low pressure or a squib circuit fault.
APU AGENT Switch
-
A momentary switch used to discharge the fire extinguishing agent into the APU.
-
If no lights are illuminated:
- System is normal and disarmed
-
If both SQUIB and DISCH lights are illuminated:
- APU FIRE switch has been pulled
- Pressure and squib are confirmed normal
- Pressing the switch discharges the APU extinguisher
- SQUIB light turns off
-
If only DISCH is illuminated:
- Agent has been discharged
- Pressure is low
-
Note
If neither light illuminates after pulling the APU FIRE switch, the system may not operate due to low pressure or abnormal squib loop.
FIRE SYS TEST Switch
- A momentary switch used to test the fire detection and suppression system.
-
Press and hold for 2 seconds.
During the test:
- Displays "FIRE SYS IN TEST" message on EICAS
-
Illuminates red warning lights on:
- MASTER WARN
- L ENG FIRE
- R ENG FIRE
- APU FIRE
- FWD CARGO SMOKE
- AFT CARGO SMOKE
- L FUEL CONTROL
- R FUEL CONTROL
- APU FIRE (on APU ground panel)
-
Activates the following aural alerts:
- Triple chime
- "RIGHT ENGINE FIRE" continuous alert
- APU loudspeaker alerts (on ground panel)
After the test:
- Displays "FIRE SYS OK" on EICAS if no malfunctions are present
