Overhead LIGHTING Control Panel

Overview

The Overhead LIGHTING Control Panel allows the crew to adjust the brightness and operation mode of various cockpit lights, including flood lighting, dome lighting, compass backlight, indicator lighting, and overall brightness control.

Panel Components

OVHD PNL/FLOOD Knob

This dual-ring knob allows adjustment of the overhead panel and flood lighting.

  • Outer ring: Controls the brightness of the integral lighting on the overhead panel.
  • Inner ring: Controls the brightness of the flood light on the overhead panel.
  • Rotating clockwise increases brightness; counterclockwise decreases it.
  • Turning either ring to the OFF position extinguishes the corresponding lights.

DOME Knob

Controls the dome light brightness.

  • Rotate clockwise to increase brightness and counterclockwise to decrease it.
  • When turned to OFF, the dome light turns off completely.

COMPASS Knob

Adjusts the illumination of the standby magnetic compass.

  • Clockwise increases brightness; counterclockwise decreases it.
  • OFF position extinguishes the compass backlight.

STORM Switch

Activates high-intensity lighting mode for all cockpit lights linked to STORM control.

  • Pushed: All associated lights are set to maximum brightness.
  • Released: STORM lighting mode is deactivated.

IND LTS Switch

Three-position toggle switch for indicator lights and pushbutton lighting.

  • TEST: All lighted pushbuttons and indicator lights illuminate to test functionality.
  • BRT: Pushbuttons and indicators are set to bright mode.
  • DIM: Pushbuttons and indicators are dimmed.

MASTER BRIGHT Switch

This is a combined push-and-rotate control that enables or disables the overall brightness adjustment for all cockpit panel lights.

  • Pushed: Enables global brightness adjustment for cockpit panels.
  • Released: Disables global brightness adjustment, allowing individual control.
  • Rotate: Adjusts brightness of integral lighting system-wide.
  • OFF position turns off the related lighting.

Functionality

The MASTER BRIGHT switch works in combination with local dimming knobs (e.g., OVHD PNL/FLOOD, MAIN PNL/FLOOD, PED PNL/FLOOD) to provide either overall or sectional brightness adjustment:

  • When MASTER BRIGHT is pushed, global adjustment is active, and local knobs fine-tune brightness.
  • When released, only local dimming knobs control their respective areas independently.
