EMER LT & PASS SIGN Control Panels
Overview
The EMER LT and PASS SIGN panels provide essential passenger safety controls in the cockpit. The EMER LT Selector controls the emergency cabin lighting system, while the PASS SIGN Control Panel manages seatbelt and no smoking indicators.
Panel Components
EMER LT Selector
This three-position switch determines the state of the emergency lighting system.
- OFF
- All emergency lights are turned off.
- ARM (recommended in flight)
- Emergency lights are armed and emergency power units are charging.
- If DC ESS or AC ESS bus power fails, the lights activate automatically.
- A cyan caution message (
EMER LT NOT ARMD
) is shown on EICAS if not in ARM during flight.
- Emergency lights are armed and emergency power units are charging.
- ON
- All emergency lights turn on immediately, regardless of bus status.
Info
The selector should always be in the ARM position during flight to ensure emergency lighting auto-activation in case of power failure.
BELT Switch
Controls the “Fasten Seatbelt” and “Return to Seat” signs.
- OFF
- Both signs are turned off.
- AUTO
- Signs illuminate automatically under specific conditions:
- Nose landing gear is extended and locked
- FLAPS/SLATS lever is not in 0 detent
- Cabin depressurization (belt sign only)
- Signs illuminate automatically under specific conditions:
- ON
- Both signs are manually turned on.
Note
In the event of cabin depressurization, the BELT signs turn on automatically and a red CABIN ALTITUDE warning appears on EICAS.
NO SMKG Switch
Controls the “No Smoking” signs.
- OFF
- The signs are turned off.
- AUTO
- Signs illuminate automatically under these conditions:
- Nose landing gear is extended and locked
- FLAPS/SLATS lever is not in 0 detent
- Cabin depressurization
- Signs illuminate automatically under these conditions:
- ON
- The signs are manually turned on.
Note
When either seatbelt or no smoking signs transition from off to on, a chime sounds through the cockpit loudspeaker.
